Can I stop the Sources field from expanding when I use Command-T to
navigate to a folder? This behavior makes me collapse that field many
times a day.

I sometimes use the Mailbox list. :/

It wouldn’t be such a bother if the folders weren’t duplicated down
in the Mailboxes section. It doesn’t make sense to me to see them in
both areas. Not sure of the design reason for this.

I use the Mailboxes list to show me where I am in my mailbox
hierarchy. If you don't use it that way, and always use the keyboard
to navigate to a folder, why not hide the mailbox view (View > Layout

It's not really “by design”. It's more like a missing feature that
MailMate does not hide the IMAP folders under “Sources” which are
also part of one of the universal folders under “Mailboxes”.

If it became a feature I hope it would be optional. I only use the
Sources folders. I’m in ‘home’ mode for one Source and
‘work’ mode for others. Having them jumbled together or having to
set up some sort rule to keep them apart would be a backwards step.

Don't worry. Such a feature would be optional. The general idea is that
the universal mailboxes should also be optional (and the set of
universal mailboxes should be configurable).
